I personally prefer 3rd party games than 1st party Nintendo games for certain reasons.

1. They have more genre diversity such as rhythm, life sim, 3D platformer, simulation, party, tower defense, racing, farming sim, etc.

2. They have better presentation in dialogues, storyline concept, environments design, character design, gameplay system, etc.

3. They have wide variety of music or unique music model especially Rhythm games from Konami like DDR, Beatmania IIDX, GITADORA, Pop'n Music, etc.

4. They have interesting or unique charm for certain peoples who are not a fan of too popular things from 1st party Nintendo games.

5. They have tendency being cheaper than 1st party Nintendo games.

What about you ?
Do you prefer 3rd party games than 1st party Nintendo games and what is your reason ?

I think this thread is unnecessarily negative and only wants to project extreme personal preferences.

Instead of "What 3d party game you prefer on Nintendo systems?" you state that 3rd party games ARE better just because you do not like Zelda, Mario etc.

Why purchase a switch if not for its amazing exclusives? Not to downplay 3rd party masterpieces but If I only cared for 3rd party games I’d have a steamdeck.that being said 3rd party games are amazing and a healthy gaming library contains both 1st and 3rd party games

I like games. I prefer Nintendo games. I like chocolate too.

We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.

I alot of these takes are either wrong like Nintendo doesn't do a variety of different types of games (including 3D platformers?!?!) when they are the biggest publisher releasing different genres and Nintendo games are more expensive when their RRP is less than other major publishers to the point Zelda Kingdom Sad 😢being the same price has driven Americans mad with the rest of the bullet points being design choices preferences like a lack of cheesy K-pop music or avoiding bad scripting which runs rife in vidya games by focusing on the gameplay first. So I award this thread a facepalm.

@Anti-Matter Downsides: Third-party games generally are buggier and/or are harder and frustrating.

Typically, for me to enjoy a third party game over a first party Nintendo title, it essentially has to have the Nintendo factor. Or something of that equivalence. Easier said than done, but I have come across games in the past that give me similar vibes. Examples would be Sly Cooper and Ratchet & Clank. Those are 3rd party releases I guess since they are first party releases for PlayStation... There legitimately aren't too many third party games that I enjoy more than first party Nintendo games... Sonic Frontiers is a game I have been thoroughly enjoying, despite its flaws. Though I wouldn't say that is has that Nintendo vibe. Sega kind of does its own thing.

What a weird idea for a topic. I mean, Nintendo is my favorite developer, but I'd be hard pressed to find any franchise, even something like Zelda or Metroid, I prefer over something like MGS or Megaman

I have a strange love/hate relationship with Nintendo.
No other game developer comes close to capturing the sense of childlike wonder and fun that Nintendo pack into every title. Unfortunately the hardware limitations are making it harder for me to enjoy these titles on switch.
I also hold a grudge that I had to pay full price to access my Wii-U library on the switch when it should have just transferred across.
I also know that I contribute as to why Nintendo get away charging for old games. I have bought the same handful of games on every Nintendo System!!!
It's like digital stockholm.

Is this a third-party-recommendations topic or an everyone-have-a-pop-at-Nintendo one?

In the former case, a selection of games that Nintendo wouldn't make the like of includes:
Assassin's Creed: Ezio Collection
Hades
Hyper Light Drifter
Nier: Automata
The Outer Worlds
Resident Evil 4
Shin Megami Tensei V
Spiritfarer

In the latter case:
Limited editions that sell out before everyone gets a chance
Switch Online being a joke compared to PS+ and Game Pass
The 3DS and Wii U eShops closing

The idea that Nintendo can't make 3D platformers is a take so hot you could melt tungsten steel with it though.

It wasn't a weird idea to like more 3rd party games than 1st party Nintendo games.
Different peoples have different gaming interest.
I personally pretty welcome with 3rd party games as they have more diversity in genre and I don't stuck by one or two franchises only.
By playing more 3rd party games, I got more gaming experiences and knowledges like the way I tasted different foods.
Also, a lot of 3rd party games have more appeal for me in term of character design, gameplay, their persona, etc.
If I compared with Nintendo IP such as Mario games for example, the 3rd party games characters look more appealing for me than Mario characters.
I do have interest with certain Mario games, but if I compared how big my interest between Mario games and 3rd party games, the 3rd party games I like have waaay.... bigger interest level than Mario games.
And to see some comments here from different users, I feel not happy to see some of Nintendo fans are not really open minded with 3rd party games and they just keep stuck on same Nintendo IP, refuse to open their heart to like 3rd party games that actually still have great gaming experiences.

Btw, are you sure you don't have much interest with 3rd party games ?

I created this thread to find somebody who have more interest with 3rd party games than 1st party Nintendo games and I want to know the reason for liking more 3rd party games.
I believe not everyone have same interest level in gaming.
Somebody might have more interest in 1st party Nintendo games, while other peoples might have interest in 3rd party games due to different appeal.
So, do you have more interest in 3rd party games by general ?

After the video game crash in Murica back in 83' Nintendo had to pitch the NES as an educational experience to retailers because retailers were distancing themselves from the hobby. Ever since Nintendo had gone global with video games in the 80's their brand has been family oriented fun. As a result, a bulk of the PEGI 18 / M-rated games are developed and published by Nintendo's third party partners. For that reason...yes, I prefer third party games over first party games.

It... depends entirely on the game?

I'll say this: while the success of a Nintendo console hinges heavily on its first-party exclusives, they're also not enough to support the platform on their own. We saw this with the Wii U.

Nintendo needs strong third-party support in addition to their super-popular first-party releases in order to truly thrive.

If anything, this is far less negative than the average Anti-Matter post. At least it wasn't accompanied with some long screed about how people who play adult-rated titles are evil, lol.

I get much more hype over third parties than I do first parties in most cases. Its a running gag with me and my partner that I'm a Nintendo fangirl (never had any other consoles) and I barely play any Nintendo games on the system, only Animal Crossing, Splatoon (which has dwindled in playtime in recent years) and 3D mario games that are few and far between.

I say it's weird because it makes it sound like people here play almost only Nintendo games, which, if you ask me, you're extremely limiting yourself if you do
