I reckon Velma is so grand that people are losing their minds over it because of an emotion response it’s created which meets the criteria of art to me. It's like a magician that tells you the magic show isn't really magic as it's just a show, they preforms some tricks and then the entire audience screams witchcraft and tries to burn them as a witch like back in the day at Salem.

In an age when the irrelevant sweary cartoons are yawned at like South Park are literally asking their audience to cancel them but no one takes it seriously or Rick & Morty keeps doing cheap shocks like inter-family love making but no one cares enough to get angry. Yet Velma is getting people real angry because they understood ever evolving language and mindset needed to get folk angry.

I think the show is trash (I didn't make it to 5 mins before I turned it off) and it’s sad that more actually provocative shows/movies aren’t creating outrage because people aren’t arsed by non-franchise and non-CGI things but still bravo for being relevant, trolling and living in people’s heads.

Thought this was the movie thread? Anyway, imagine living in a world where you get annoyed by something that has zero impact on your life and the lives of other people.

@Rambler I do have a theory (which is still in progress) about that. It's similar how to the wild west was glamourised by loads of westerner movies to become this exciting wild time when it was nothing like that at all yet it's been romanticised to become as fact of American history which influences people today. Only now history and culture to people is franchises like Scooby Doo, Star Wars etc which people get upset about if they aren't real by their ideal definition, which replaces (for me at least when I was a kid) movies like Shaun Of The Dead or Trainspotting which connected as it felt like real life even with the upside down dead babies and zombie fighting elements. Or I could just be talking out of my arse.

This came about as I watched Pale Rider and despite loving Clint Eastwood cowboy films I only found it so so and my mind started to drift.

@jump
This does mean that the whole world has turned into Alan Partridge, and the only thing they can say is, "stop getting Bond wrong"

(Or variations thereof)

@Rambler pretty much. The sad thing is that it’s not even a joke, the likely next Republican candidate to run for president has based their campaign on not liking how woke the Disney Star Wars films are which people are eating it up instead of real issues.

Productive few weeks movie wise, but not without issues. Can't go and watch Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse because it's been banned here. I think it has something to do with a certain blue and pink flag that showed up in someone's room.

Ah well. Sisu gave me a right good scare at any rate.

@TheJGG you’re better off waiting closer til Spider Man 11 comes out anyway to see Spider Man 10 as it forgot to include an ending with the movie.

How was Sisu, I heard it’s basically a thin excuse for action and gore but is it good fun action and gore?

MsJubilee

I watched two movies this past weekend.

Lake Placid(1999). It was alright. I think I watched this movie as a kid on channel 46, Unimas. Because they used to run these forgotten movies, I guess because it didn't cost anything or anything at all to have the station run it. Anyway. It wasn't funny or engaging; it tried too hard to be funny. But Betty White was hilarious. All her lines were top-notch stuff. She's the star of the show. I wish they gave her more screen time; it would have saved this movie. 5/10.

Fantastic, Mr. Fox. I adored this movie. So heartwarming. It was a treat. I didn't see the appeal of it in the first 20 minutes. But afterward, I had a smile on my face and laughed at all the dry jokes. The voice acting was superb. The cast did a tremendous job; I teared up at one scene because of a line a particular main character delivered. I didn't expect that. The animation is cute as well. The characters were sweet and unique. It's such an excellent film. 10/10. I would gladly watch it again

I don't enjoy suffering alone. However, I don't mind making others suffer alone.

Playing through Zombie Army 4, Prodeus, and Detroit Become Human.

I heard, but it’s apparently one of the better animated movies of all time, it’d be a shame to not see it in theatres because of a non-supremacist-movement flag. They ban Spider-Man but allow Sisu, a movie of a silent, gruff Finnish man who kills a squad of Nazis for gold?

Sisu itself is a little mindless but never thoughtless, in a way. The guy just refuses to die no matter what the admittedly crafty Nazis throw at him, and sure, there’s a little deus ex machina, but it’s all good fun. The violence can be quite graphic for that matter.

Is it Finnish John Wick? Nah, JW has stunning choreography and a higher budget. This is set in the wilderness and is far more visceral.
