Update [Fri 19th May, 2023 20:22 BST]: Well... that was exciting for just over a day, wasn't it? The Pokémon Company has just revealed that yesterday's announcement — Pokémon HOME support for Scarlet & Violet will be live next week — was actually a mistake.
On Twitter, the company revealed that didn't mean to share any news regarding HOME compatibility, and has now issued a correction (via Serebii). That means HOME compatibility will not be available on 23rd/24th May, but it "will come soon", says TPC.
Here's the statement in full:
"We put the cart before the Mudsdale!
Earlier we mistakenly posted that Pokémon HOME version 3.0.0 would launch on 23/24 May. However, the actual release date is yet to be announced. 3.0.0 is coming soon though, so please continue to follow our pages for more information!"
No release date has been announced for Pokémon HOME's 3.0 update, but we'll let you as soon as there's news. Check our original story below for what to expect...
Original Article [Thu 18th May, 2023 14:40 BST]: The Pokémon Company has finally confirmed that Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will be receiving its long-awaited Pokémon HOME support next week from 24th May.
It has been a long old wait since the last update on the connectivity back in February, but we suppose that late May is still technically "early 2023", right?
The announcement was made via the official @Pokemon Twitter account, where we learnt that connecting Scarlet and Violet to HOME is going to come with its own set of bonuses. This includes special forms of Sprigatito, Fuecoco and Quaxly with Hidden Abilities as Mystery Gifts in the mobile version of Pokémon HOME.
Just in case you haven't used Pokémon HOME before, this much-anticipated support will allow you to transfer your Pokémon to a shared app, where they can then be stored or subbed into prior Switch games in the series (Sword and Shield, Legends: Arceus, Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl etc.) as long as they exist in the destination game.
According to Serebii.net, the support will also provide a Move Relearner so you can teach your teammates their old skills from the app along with some other handy features such as the ability to sort through a Pokémon's game data on the fly and the ability to exchange Home points into League points.
It has been a long time coming, it is true, but the wait is almost over. Get ready to start transferring from 24th May.
Are you excited to see Pokémon HOME support for Scarlet and Violet? Let us know in the comments.

Thank goodness I got so sick of so many people whining and crying about this, now they can get back to whining and crying about the performance issues, while the rest of us can get back to enjoying the tera raids and waiting for the dlc.
@michellelynn0976 I am glad that many people, myself included, enjoyed the game in the state that it’s in, but the game is clearly unfinished, so I think those complaints are completely justified.
Finally! Now back to Zelda.
@Munchlax
Sure, but people need to move on already..
@michellelynn0976 Your post sure reads like whining about people whining.
I'm one of the "whiners". I guess after paying $120 for the double pack and $350 for the Special Edition OLED I expected more from a 12Trillion dollar franchise. I didn't mean to ruffle your feathers, swear.
Meowscarada: Protean
Skeledirge: Unaware
Quaquaval: Moxie
Skeledirge getting the short end of the stick here. Unaware is definitely good, but not as good as Moxie or especially Protean. I don't really get Protean on Meowscarada though. It makes total sense on Kecleon and some sense for the Froakie line as I can buy a frog changing its biology, but it doesn't really make sense for a cat.
Happy for those genuinely waiting for this!
@michellelynn0976 Oh, don’t be like that. The bitter tears over SV’s success are still as hilarious as they were during launch week!
@Munchlax You don’t seem to understand what unfinished means.
I’ve found the biggest critics of Pokémon are doing it because they want the franchise to be better not because they have some misplaced hatred of Pokémon. It’s ridiculous to accuse people legitimately criticizing pokemon of being haters when the franchise has an array of problems
@Eagly I’m sure the necessary patches and coding were ready ages ago to support Home in Scarlet and Violet. They deliberately hold off on adding import support to Pokémon games to prevent people from importing generations worth of Pokémon and blowing through the game and dominating online. They’ve done it every generation since Bank was introduced.
I'm still waiting for the update that has the game actually play at a stable framerate. Not even asking for 60fps, just more than the single digits it has a tendency to drop down to when the screen is "loaded" with objects (a.k.a more than two pokemon are on screen).
Dope. Looking forward to moving over the two shinies I found and some of my other favorites. Now I can restart the game without feeling like I’m losing much.
So if I understand correctly, you can actually transfer Pokémon from Gen VIII to Gen IX and back, or just go from IX to VIII? You haven't been able to do backwards, two-way transfers since Gen I and II, so that's neat.
I still fully believe that Pokémon HOME should be part of the NSO Expansion Pack. If they did that then that might actually be a bit of an incentive to actually try the new Pokémon games again, but they really gotta pull money out of their customers wherever they can just because they know they can. Sad.
It’s crazy it took so long to bring something that should’ve been available at launch.
I've not been waiting for this but I still want to say finally. It was promised ages ago but at least it's coming very soon and close now.
I doubt they'll fix performance issues and buggyness now but hopefully they'll care about the issue going forward with their games. They might, so time will tell. I'm not normally bothered by this. Didn't bother me in Pokemon Legends Arceus. It does bother me here as it just seems a lot more extreme.
Despite that, I've had a lot of fun with Pokemon Scarlet anyway and would say it is still a very good Pokemon game.
@michellelynn0976 Yup, the perpetual complainers have turned complaining into a sport, if their current grievance is fixed they will find something else to latch onto. Personally, just like most people, I don't give a damn about Pokémon Home, so GameFreak was wise to consider it lower priority. Most will literally never use that feature.
It would be about damn time! Early spring my butthole.
It may have taken longer than a Shuckle finishing a marathon to come out but I don't even care because IT'S FINALLY HOOPANING.
I've been taking a break from SV for a while due to a number of reasons (only really coming back now due to the recent Chesnaught raid) but HOME support is exactly what I needed to kick me back into overdrive. Can't wait to finally transfer over all of my shinies (especially my ever-growing Dunsparce/Dudunsparce collection XD) ✨
@thesilverbrick there are 2 issues eith that the first is that compared to bank the cheaper and more reliable service home usually takes twice as long to allow a game to be accessible to its services

@thesilverbrick wouldn't need to affect blowing through the game if locked to completion, nor online if they weren't allowed in that
I will finally start playing the games and update my living dex. I'm at a point in my life where I don't play a Pokémon game before it got Home supports. I'm just too tired of restarting everything from scratch every new gen.
finally Home is updated for Violet/Scarlet to be compatible with Shield/Sword i guess?
then maybe i can transfer my Treecko/Sceptile and Mudkip over to Violet
I assume this will fix the performance issues?
@FirstEmperor Depends on how they're using the term "unfinished". You can have a functional kitchen table that's "unfinished" and has a rough texture because it was never sanded to smooth it out. I think that's an appropriate description for the games. I enjoy them but I also recognize the roughness.
As of the updated article I just have one question to any person defending gamefreak.
Is this even close to the potential pokemon could have with another studio?
..........................
I loved SV but this is pretty embarrassing.
Are you kidding me right now, are you serious? One thing! We just wanted one thing! What a bunch of jokes.
@michellelynn0976
Lol.
Lmao.
@michellelynn0976 lol they’re already way behind schedule with Pokémon Home integration and you’re waiting for the DLC?? Good luck, that is going to run worse than the base game… if it even releases on time.
@michellelynn0976 Y’know, I’ve heard of posts aging like milk, but it doesn’t usually happen in a day. No Home for us, no Raids for you, everybody loses this round.
I really enjoyed SV but everything about/around this game is absolutely embarassing
Nice to see that Pokemon will be able to be sent back a Generation for the first time since Gen 2, but with presumably the same nonsense of Gen 8 where their moves are changed.
Does someone need some popcorn? The entire situation around TPC is just for sitting and enjoy.
@michellelynn0976 The complaints are vary justified, even more justified now actually!
I've played a ton of SV and greatly enjoy them but this is still just getting humiliating at this point.
Bruh 😂😂😂
How does that even happen lol.
BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Listen, I, like many others, have actually enjoyed my time with S/V, but this is just...PFFTHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
@Fizza Ah yes, a fellow fan of the IT crowd
This whole game is just one big mistake that continues to make even more mistakes lol.
Even their announcement system is buggy. Gutted. Just want to get my shiny mons in home
As someone who they managed to go from long time fan to not even buying their products anymore, this is just getting funny at this point.
@Eagly If it were at all possible, I think either Nintendo EPD and/or Monolith Soft should be allowed to create Pokémon games going forward. It could be glorious, but GF is just holding the series back.
Yikes.. Why not let have Monolith Soft have a go at the franchise?
I'm certain they could do a (much) better job.. Just look at the Xenoblade games and BotW/TotK..
Still enjoyed S/V, but it could indeed be so much better.
Pokemon is done. Wake me up when this property is in better hands. What's crazy is Pokemon has had so much potential to be a crazy awesome experience in a video game and they have trailed so hard behind all other developers that Zelda is by far and away a better experience than we may ever get with Pokemon.
Hopefully big changes take place soon. I'm very hesitant to consider getting the Pokemon DLC when it launches primarily because it has been 6 months and no true improvements have been made to performance. Meanwhile, Zelda has been out for a week and already had two meaningful patches.
@Mauzuri 100% agreed. I think either Monolith or Bandai Namco could knock it out of the park.
So their announcement system now also contains glitches?
Oh pokemon company….. stop bathing in your money and get yourself together
@Mauzuri They would do a much better job because they would actually care.
Oh dear, I can smell the seething of the internet already lol.
Such a mess. Every single aspect of how this IP is handled today is a mistake.
What a ****stain of a Gen.
It’s by far beyond a joke
What a f**king joke, GF and TPC are beyond incompetent.
I don't even use HOME and those news are morale breaking
I haven't really been following Pokémon news recently, but I honestly thought that Home support has already been part of the game for a while now. The more I read about the games the more rushed they seem to be.
This is a paid service, and also the only way to save Pokémon in the cloud because Pokémon games aren't compatible with the Switch'es cloud saving (so they can fleece even more money out of you). The games have been out for 6 months. This is pathetic.
I was literally eating popcorn when I came across this! Perfect timing
@michellelynn0976 Maybe some day you'll learn you're able to be critical of something and still like it... but probably not. I'm sure when a company like EA release something that isn't perfectly optimized for Nintendo's hardware you'll be first to throw a stone though.
@Snatcher @eaglebob345 personally I’d prefer Nintendo NPD. Xenoblade is my favorite video game franchise of all time. I would not like monolith to become permanently attached to pokemon which would cause xenoblade to come out much less frequently. In addition they would probably have less creative freedom compared to the stuff they are allowed to get away with in the xenoblade franchise. That being said in a perfect world monolith soft would be 1000x better than game freak at developing the Pokémon franchise
@Eagly next level games would also probably do a good job!
I want them to at least do one game, because I just need to see all the un taped potential this series has, but good lord game freak is, has falling so hard!
Yeah I wouldn’t want them to get attached to it, and let’s be honest they would kill to keep them after seeing what they could do.
They didn't just bring a clownshow, they brought the entire circus.
In all seriousness, someone must have been discovered some last minute bug.
Jesus they keep feeding the garbage fire
The only series I can think of under the Nintendo banner that is actively trying to become anti-fun. Gamefreak is Nintendo's Activsion/Blizzard.
I’m glad I gave up after the first round of Gen 7. Watching this go up in flames on the sidelines is far more entertaining than the actual games.
Very bizarre, I wonder what happened? And how soon is “soon,” because it is getting a little ridiculous. Game has been out for quite awhile now.
Does The Pokémon Company just have no quality control department anymore?
Everything about Scarlet/Violet has been, and continues to be, an indefensible disaster.
@Munchlax Agree. This sort of debate becomes the same tired old thing. Some people are preachy and hypocritically take the chance to publicly 'whinge about whingers' because 'their experience of satisfaction is affected'. On the other hand I guess some people take the criticisms a bit too far at times. I felt the backlash on Legends Arceus was frankly overblown - it runs better than Scarlet/Violet and I'd rather the lowered graphics in that game and in what it achieves.
The state of this game for the most part has been far buggier than many previous Pokemon experiences (even on Switch). It should not be immune to criticism. I played through and I still felt enough satisfaction, but I don't feel a need like others to go around being preachy about others' negative experiences. It's possible to enjoy a game but still acknowledge its flaws and allow others to express their feelings of it. But this attitude of 'criticism = whining' is always tiresome.
The decline of the franchise continues... Legends: Arceus is the exception rather than the norm. Game Freak should either turn the franchise over to a developer who knows how to make competent 3D games or return to making 2D games.
@CharlieGirl
Delaying this 3.0.0 Home update is the quality control, otherwise it would have probably introduced some (possibly game-breaking or save-file corrupting) bugs to a game that is already filled to the brim with bugs.
But knowing GameFreak, the Home update will probably launch like a week later (i.e. May 30/31) and still introduce a bug or two to Scarlet/Violet.
Is DP remakes worth it? I have a pokemon itch but am not interested in this gen or last
@Snatcher
Not to mention the music! Yeah, now I really want Monolith to try their hand on the franchise lol
@Classic603 if you want a more classic Pokémon experience, then sure. The reviews are pretty average though. Consensus is that it’s a pretty faithful DP remake with some decent expansion, aka the underground, but it’s lacking extra features from Platinum. Opinions on the art style are split, you either like the chibi or you don’t.
I would recommend the DP remakes only to someone who wants a classic Pokémon experience. So if that’s you, give it a go and it’ll satisfy the itch.
@Classic603 BD/SP are worth it if you can get it at a discount, or a cheap used copy. They're okay if you want the vintage Pokémon formula, just not worth full price whatsoever.
@CharlieGirl
I'll have to keep an eye out then. The art style is cute to me, and I loved Pearl
@Waluigi451
Sounds like it is me, so thanks for the info! I'm more interested in classic Pokemon
@Mauzuri I’m not even a fan of he instrument, yet I love xenoblade music! Vary few games make me like the soundtrack regardless, and that’s how I know it’s good!
@Classic603 i got it for this reason and I would say it did it for me, I played it a lot more then I’d like to admit, plus I never played it before, if you have you might be disappointed that it doesn’t keep the platinum stuff for whatever reason. Is it worth it for full price really depends, I got it for full price and didn’t regret it, and really enjoyed it.
If you haven’t played legends however, and you think it looks like a good time, I would get that over DP.
Mistakenly announced ?
That was totally beyond unprofessional. 🤨
It depends if "soon" is around the same time as the recent release date. Otherwise this feels like a complete joke.
@Classic603 I'd rather pay the inflated price for an original copy of Platinum. Imo, still the best Pokemon ever made.
I stopped playing Violet months ago.
Was going to hop in on Wednesday and import my 'mon from Sword but welp guess not
I'm going to go play kaizo SMM2 now
@kal_el_07241 Pokémon is the only game that sold more than Zelda in its first few days so it seems to be doing just fine. Zelda was always better than Pokémon, quality wise and I don't see that ever changing. Nor does it have to, almost no game in the market has a chance against Zelda when it comes to that.
@Bret Meanwhile quaxly's final evo isn't even meta in the competitive scene while the others are.
Unaware is pretty godly, making any stat boosts for your opponent useless. Been bringing skeledirge into raids with its hidden ability into raids. and been tearing through defenses and shrugging off hits.
@DarkScythe13 i enjoyed the games the way they were.I didn't see or have problems with the graphics and I play mostly in portable mode.
To me and a lot of the other people in the community the constant criticisms got old really quick. This is the reason why they are seen as whining because it became annoying as hell to see the same things over and over.
The game is what it is no matter how much you complain isn't going to change what the games are. Either accept the games as what they are and move on, or sell your game and stop bringing down the community.
@westman98 I have waited this long for the update, waiting a bit longer isn't going to kill me. TBH i am glad they put a hold and are fixing any problems.
We still got plenty of time before the dlc comes out.
@Snatcher hopefully NGl could do a good job but they’ve never done a RPG. I would like to counter offer with cloud atlus the persona people who have made switch exclusives before
I am definitely good with monolith doing a single game. If they gave Pokémon the full xenoblade development cycle with 5 years and put everything into it I 100% believe it would be supass every other Pokémon game even classics like HGSS and platinum. But the sad part is wether it’s Monolith, atlus, square, the yakuza devs, square enix, intelligent systems or NGl it would easily be the best Pokémon game in more than a decade because game freak is just the wrong choice
I also doubt the studio would want to get attached. Not to bring up 7 years of deepdives into Pokémon development but it definitely looks like tpc’s ridiculous deadlines are part of the reason it is such a messy franchise
@hypercoyote I don't think that's an appropriate use of the word "unfinished" at all, but if the butchering of words like "literally" have taught me anything, people sure do love stretching definitions until they become utterly meaningless. Even a vague description like "unoptimized" is an infinitely more informative and accurate criticism of SV.
@FirstEmperor I mean, you can Google it and see it's one of the dictionary definitions of it, so I wouldn't call it a stretch. If you have ever worked with furniture, it's a common term to use in the way I described.
@hypercoyote Video games aren't furniture.
@FirstEmperor "(of an object) not having been given an attractive surface appearance as the final stage of manufacture."
@hypercoyote
object
noun
a material thing that can be seen and touched.
@bystanderx79 depends on the criticisms and what your interpretation of ‘bringing down the community’’. Those behaviours to me are basically those that make death threats or that basically turn it from a debate into a volatile argument that degenerates into petty personal insults.
In the case of at least some of those criticising, theyre from fans who are frustrated with where Pokemon has been heading. They are passionate and want better. As far as I’m concerned, so long as they back up their criticisms with actually reasoning other than simply stating ‘it sucks, everything sucks then im not seeing the issue.
On the one hand, If i dont care for the community discourse, I usually just tune out and let people do their thing. Why should it matter if i see something debated over and over? I dont feel entitled enough to determine how others should feel. Whinging about whinging is whinging too. On the other hand, there are ongoing examples of experiences where communities continue to make criticisms like in Pokemon GO (and ive been one of those people) given the nature of the game being frequently updated and the course of the game always changing. People in that community make the same claims you have, but if people hadnt raised their concerns some of the good remaining features of the game would have been ripped out. How does one give feedback or let devs know their stance if they ‘stop whinging’?
@FirstEmperor Okay, good job, you beat me. Have a great night.
@hypercoyote Thank you! A good night and happy weekend to you as well!
@DarkScythe13 I agree that constructive criticism is a good thing. I have a few of my own, like the rampant cheating that GF hasn't taken the necessary steps to address. I have no problem with people that are criticizing a product they're purchased, as long as they're not misrepresenting anything. I can't fault the people that are here just to mock Game Freak either, because I'm here to mock the haters.
The ones I enjoy mocking the most: people who try to pressure me into joining their boycott by insulting me, and the people who want Nintendo to do some sort of hostile takeover of Pokémon from Game Freak. The idea I'd deny myself something I enjoy to appease people on the internet is hilarious, and hostile takeovers are one of the things I hate most about corporatism. Fortunately Game Freak never made the mistake of selling out and going public, so there's no outside investors that can kick the founders out of their own company.
Also, SV just hit 5 million physical sold in Japan! GF has no reason whatsoever to give the time of day to people in favor of hostile takeovers.
@michellelynn0976 The performance issues never bothered me, but the lack of Home support does.
@Switch_Pro Zelda was always better than Pokemon and it is fine if Pokemon doesn't even try to do better? What kind of defense is that? Pokemon games not even trying to be polished is a good thing now?
Also, I want to remind everyone here. Home is a PAID service. People paid for a Pokemon transfer service that is taking like 6+ months to be implemented into the latest game.
@jowe_gv in strict sense its a freemium service since you don't have to pay to use it. The paid service is for more pokemon to be held in the cloud plus someother options.
That said this is ridiculous on how its implemented. Not only the mistaken release date reveal. Also the fact that we have to wait at all.
@KAI_MIDORIKAWA That seems to have changed thankfully.
@shoeses It's one thing to criticize, it's another to throw a fiat at anything.
@shoeses Also, stop being condescending.
@Snatcher Not really.
@Nanoline52 Your comment didn't age well.
@Aawill91 Lol you don't know what. Lol
@michellelynn0976 Still remained relevant 11 days longer than yours did. And I’m not the one who felt a burning need to return to the thread 19 days later to quickly spam out half a dozen “NO U” replies due to being top-tier buttmad. You just keep on keepin’ on there, little buddy.
@michellelynn0976 Wait not really what? About the comments being valid? Because they were and still are.
@EaglyPurahfan Im not sure how the heck I missed this, Altus would be amazing! And once again, would make a better game! We need people who care about Pokémon, and gamefreak as made it obvious more then enough times that they don’t. (And I mean as a whole, not the individual devs, because who knows how many of them care but just don’t get the choice to make it better)
I hope monolith help with the next game, please gamefreak! You need management help!
And that dlc is still baffling to me, like the price, they have their nerve.
@Snatcher I believe that this site occasionally drops @‘s as that has happened to me a few times.
I believe that there is a multitude of ways pokemon could improve as a franchise and a large part pf that would be changing devs. Gamefreak is either incapable or unwilling to handle the biggest media franchise with the care it deserves. Atlus has been creating games with similar mechanics to Pokémon yet thier stories combat and animation outshine any Pokémon games. I would vastly prefer they work on a Pokémon game. However I believe that it would also just be wise to play persona 5 and enjoy a high quality creature collection game rather than hoping for the Pokémon franchise to turn around as every release on switch has sunk lower
Unfortunately monolith already does work on the Pokémon games. However it is only for map design. I would hope that in the future they played a larger role in development specifically in the story and gameplay as I believe the franchises combat has grown stale and most Pokémon stories are beyon dull
Remember the target audience for Pokémon is casual gamers. Those who play a handful of games a year. I am not trying to sound elitist but they don’t care about video games as passionately as we do and will only play a select few a year so for them the dlc is perhaps thier only gaming purchase that season
@EaglyPurahfan They did the maps? I knew it felt familiar, no wonder! They just have their hands in everything don’t they?
It’s crazy to me that a franchise like this just continues to end up like this, are they even rushed to do the job? Because so many other games get rushed and it feels like they try harder then Pokémon, and it’s such a shame, because I find these games so fun, but it just gets harder, and harder to actually justify paying for it, even for the fun aspect, it just hurts knowing it could have been so much more.
No I definitely understand what you mean, there not playing nearly as many games, and if Pokémon is your only game your getting for a bit, that’s great, but good lord I’m just stumped that they actually have the stones to charge people for dlc after the game ended up the way it did, like wow, Is franchise privilege a thing? Because I definitely feel it with the dlc, if it were anything else, it wouldn’t nearly be as accepted, not saying it is per say, but look at this comment section, criticism like this is seen as just complaining, and this dlc is just going to bring back pokemon people like, when they could just do the national dex, oh right, then they would actually have to do something other then porting 3ds models, forgot.
@Snatcher monolith soft is arguably nintendos most beneficial developer. This generation alone they worked on new horizons, sword and shield/legends Arceus , splatoon 2/3, BOTW/TOTK and of course the xenoblade trilogy. I would assume this was a deal they struck with Nintendo in exchange for more creative freedom for the xenoblade franchise as they seem to be able to get away with more mature themes
I have reached a point with Pokémon where it becomes harder to care. I would love a game that falls within the standards of other JRPGS. However the longer I spend hoping for a Pokémon game that respects me the more numb I grow. I have reached a point where I would just rather play amazing JRPGS like Like a dragon, nier, dragon quest and xenoblade rather than hold false hope that Pokémon will return to greatness. A new dragon quest monsters, persona and like a dragon have all been announced recently and I know they will all be better games than Pokémon. I will play them all happily and every time they delight me and cause me to stay up until 12 I will find my connections to the Pokémon franchise grow more distant. Which is sad because the games are incredibly fun and I want to feel how I used to feel when playing them
I would argue franchise privileges is definitely a thing once you are at the top your franchise can become a self parody and still be incredibly successful. Look at Disney with thier bad live action remakes, dying mcu and whatever the mandolorian has turned into. For another example look at fast x there are 10 of them now going on 11. Pokemon is no different in the 90’s it carved itself a throne on top of all other JRPGS and never had to innovate as they were already at the top. It was fine for close to a decade but now we are in 2023 and Pokémon still refuses to for lack of a better word evolve. Less popular JRPGS have actually had to put in effort to grow as they don’t have the same kind of leeway Pokémon does with each switch release resembling ubisoft games more and more. And yeah they have privilege so why not overcharge for dlc. Pokemon isn’t xenoblade they don’t have standards to meet or people to prove things to they are at the top and will continue to abuse it. And the reason all of this has happened is Pokémon ingrained itself into pop culture and ir became an invaluable tool. The name pokemon and design of pikachu alone invoke long lost quality to everyone even those who care about video games more casually
