Rival Turf! (SNES)

Y'know, the fact that this beat'em up was done by Jaleco (who made Hoops and Super Earth Defense Force), and was released early in the SNES console's lifespan has me real interested.

I am a sucker for beat em ups. I will get this for sure!

I am as well JJ, but this game looks seriously flawed. The computer is getting a lot of hits in with only one pawn character on screen. Looks a bit slow too. I'll wait to hear some hands-on feedback before I judge it too harshly

So...what's the story like? Did the always present evil gang steal all of the city's animations?

There's an M. Bison lookalike in this game.

Looks like a Final Fight knockoff. And a mediocre one at that.

Definitely a Final Fight clone, but I don't think it's looks too shabby for what it is. Probably a fun game to play on a rainy afternoon. Besides, I pretty much welcome any and all games to Virtual Console these days! Whatever we can possibly get...

Brawl Brothers is much better. Will probably get this because I love the genre, but it isn't really that good.

Heh, Nintendo Power put this as one of the worst video game covers in history of vid games, but it's not that bad (considering others ive seen)

Never played this one, but I did play Jaleco's Brawl Brothers which looks a lot like this one actually. That one wasn't bad, but I think I'd pick up the cartridge of Rival Turf before downloading it : ), either way cool to see some Jaleco games on VC.

@Bass - wow, I'm not the only one that sees the close resemblance.
I noticed in the screenshots that you can change the color of your Oozie Nelson's outfit (in most of them it's red, while in a few it's blue). How do you do that, I wonder?

my friend had this as a kid. I thought it was awesome at the time because it was the only Beat em Up I'd ever played up to that point in time. Now it doesn't look so good I love how the map screen shows levels like Los Angeles as being located in Alaska!

Is it just me, or does that character in the red jacket from the Japanese box art look so much like Terry Bogard from Fatal Fury?

@17 No, they're not in Alaska, but they're certainly well into Canada judging from that map that looks like it was drawn from memory by a second grader.

I used to really like this game. Mostly because there was a code so you could change every characters name in the game. And because it had a hidden area which Final Fight didn't.
